This downpipe was designed to utilize several factory features in a 3 inch design.
The 3.0" flex section in this downpipe will prolong the life of the exhaust system. The OEM downpipes utilize a flex section which is very important. A solid exhaust system with no flex is going to be prone to cracking with engine vibration and movement. This also helps fit to aftermarket exhaust systems that may be slightly off from factory specs.
There's also a solid mounting bracket to make sure the downpipes are in the correct location prior to tightening down the clamps. The OEM downpipes also have this mounting bolt. This also ensures the downpipes have a proper seal without constant adjustment.
The ETS 135i and 335i downpipes start off at 3.0 inches and make there way through the flex at a full 3.0 inches then gradually reduces down to 2.5" to connect to the factory exhaust system or aftermarket replacement exhaust using the OEM Dual 2-bolt 2.5 inch connection.
