Dedenbear Products was started in 1979 by Debra and Dennis Reid. Debra was responsible for the accounting aspects when the company first started. As a mechanical engineer, Dennis has his fair share of experience in building and designing products. He was a design engineer for Fabco Axle Division of Kelsey Hayes Corp., R&D engineer in charge of instrumentation at Transamerica DeLaval Diesel Engines, and Nuclear Weapons Testing instrumentation Senior Engineer for EG&G corporation. He was also an avid NHRA racer back in the 70s, racing his corvette.
During this time, he needed a way to improve the performance of his car and ended up designing a portable timer to measure the starting line acceleration. This was a technology ahead of its time and helped shape the way cars run today in the drag racing arena. With this success, Dennis then started Dedenbear Products which specialized in manufacturing low-cost race track timing systems.
Later on, they developed a reaction time delay that allows the driver to leave the starting line more consistently and accurately, allowing race drivers to have a competitive advantage. This product became a standard item on virtually all nonprofessional race cars and helped make Dedenbear Products a popular brand.
