The Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series is one of the most iconic cars of its time. With only 500 cars made in the world and 394 brought to the USA, this car has become a collectors piece. Only available as a 2008 model, the DTM inspired flares and raw 6.3L (6.218L actually) V8 engine pumps out 500 horsepower with its 7 speed paddle shift transmission. In its heyday, this was the pace car for F1 races around the world and posters on the walls for many enthusiasts.

A customer of ours from Panama sent in this video and images of his Porsche Cayenne Turbo running the dyno at a local speed shop. The Cayenne received a full race exhaust system and our VR Tuned ECU Flash that we tune remotely via the OBDII port. The Porsche Cayenne 957 Turbo came from the factory with 500 horsepower out of the 4.8L twin turbo engine. Adding the VR Tuned ECU Flash which takes into account tuning the cars fuel, timing, throttle, and boost maps, we help squeeze out another 75 horsepower with the tune only. Adding a full turboback exhaust, you have roughly a 100 horsepower gain over stock! The best part about it is these engines can handle the increase and are still very reliable. Looking at the dyno sheet, the wheel horsepower numbers are very impressive. Typical drivetrain loss from an AWD dyno is roughly 15-20%. 20% of 575hp is 460awhp which puts this Cayenne Turbo just over that.

Headlights are one of the biggest aftermarket categories when looking to do upgrades to your vehicle. People upgrade their headlights for a better look, as a replacement, but mainly to see better when driving at night. When it comes to older cars, the optics available were not that great. These are generally halogen lights that do not even compete with the LED lights of today’s modern cars. Companies like Morimoto have been designing and manufacturing LED technology lights for many different vehicles. Besides making tons of light upgrades for different cars and trucks like the set I had on my 2020 Ford Raptor, they also produce a line up for early model Porsche 911s.

Another round of mods for our Project Porsche 964 has been completed with two names synonymous with Porsche cars, MOMO and Numeric Racing. Although the car came with a rare “Special Wishes” (pre-dates Porsche Tequipment) steering wheel on it, it just wasn’t the right driving position and look I wanted for the car. Driving position is extremely important like in any activity. If you are not sitting in the right way, you can reduce the effectiveness you have on the job at hand. The job here is driving hard through mountain roads and long distance road rallies. With the new Recaro seats we just put in, along with me being about 5’9″ tall, I like to sit a little further back so my legs have a slight bend in the knee. However with the current steering wheel setup this requires me to reach nearly straight arm to the stock steering wheel position. Adding the MOMO steering wheel in combination with the MOMO hub designed for the Porsche, and a NRG quick release, pushes the steering wheel back to a more ergonomic position so there is a good 45 degree bend in my arms. This helps reduce fatigue and give you the control with your hands on either side of the steering wheel you need.
