Whipple W185RF 3.0L Supercharger Kit Mustang GT350 2016+
What’s new about the Gen 5 besides the intercooler and rotors switching locations? It has all new bearings, gears, rotors and housing that allow the new supercharger to spin faster, longer and safer while producing more power than any other positive displacement supercharger ever built.
The Gen 5 3.0L also features an even larger intercooler than the already massive Whipple Cooler that cooled the Ford Cobra Jets and all the record setting S550 Mustangs. Couple this with the industry's leading heat exchanger, water reservoir and intercooler pump, you get more power with lower boost levels and quicker recovery times after aggressive operation.
While Whipple broke many rules and records with its record setting S550 supercharger system, holding the title of the most powerful, most advanced supercharger system available, we weren't satisified and decided to build an all new supercharger from the ground up. The stage 1 supercharger system makes *775 flywheel HP and *630 foot pounds of torque and is offered with an optional 3 year, 36,000 mile power-train warranty.
The new, direct and port injected supercharger system features the brand new Generation 5 3.0L front feed twin-screw supercharger. Not to be confused with the Gen 3 or 4, this all new supercharger features industry leading efficiency from idle to redline. All new bearings, gears, rotors and housing allow the new supercharger to spin faster, longer and safer while producing more power than any other positive displacement supercharger ever built. The new Gen 5 features an all new 3/4 rotor combination vs previous 3/5, 285 deg helix vs previous 270 deg, new bell mouth inlet, optimized discharge port and increased diameter vs length for higher efficiency.
The 2018 also features an all new patent pending triple intercooler design that has even more volume and surface area than the already massive Whipple Cooler that cooled the Ford Cobra Jets and all the record setting S550 Mustangs. Couple this with the industry's leading heat exchanger, water reservoir and intercooler pump, you get more power with lower boost levels and quicker recovery times after aggressive operation.
With years of OEM and racing experience, Whipple engineers have developed a unique PCM calibration that reconfigures all the necessary engine functions including fuel, spark, knock detection, torque management, transmission control and electronic throttle control. The vehicles PCM constantly monitors the engines torque output while monitoring many different parameters to keep the engine in it’s ideal parameters. If a parameter falls below specification, the PCM will lower boost and torque output until the problem can be cured. No other calibration in the field has such technology, giving the Whipple SC system unheralded performance and reliability. Each Whipple kit comes with unique software and a OBDII flash tool giving the customer the ability to flash/update whenever needed. Each customer also gets the new Flight Control Software, ability to adjust wheel/axle size, octane adjustment, crank/cam relearn and many other unique features.
Each complete Whipple system comes with the IAT2 harness and sensor to properly monitor the delta between the incoming air and the compressed air after the intercoolers, this helps maximize power in all given enviornments. The 6-rib billet idler system features a billet spring loaded tensioner, billet idler pulleys and lightweight pocketed supercharger pulley. The 6-rib can easily be upgraded to a 10-rib with the optional 10-rib system. Each system comes with an adjustable idler pulley to allow variance in SC pulleys with minimal belt length changes. The massive 150mm Roval inlet allows for nearly any throttle body to be run, 80mm stock, 132mm or 150mm throttle bodies.
Leaving no stone unturned, Whipple's revolutionary system for the Ford 5.0L Coyote engines is truly resetting the standards of supercharging. With its massive front feed inlet, typical inlet inefficiencies are a thing of the past. Featuring the all new ground breaking, Gen 5 inverted supercharger with the patent pending triple intercooler technology.
Other positive displacement superchargers sacrificed plenum volume and runner size while Whipple engineer's used every square inch available to open the volume of the manifold, allowing for future expansion of power levels. Small runner and small volume manifolds cause excess boost "build-up" giving you manifold pressure, not proper cylinder pressure. This results in high boost, low power scenario's with excess heat from the lack of proper flowing air volume.
Whipple didn't just stop there, knowing that the Coyote motors love boost, Whipple’s team squeezed in not one, but three high density intercooler cores featuring variable thickness to maximize airflow and cooling capacity. The triple coolers allow for maximum surface area to promote equal distribution and increased cooling. Cooler air equals denser air which equals more power at each boost level while being safer on engine components.
The bigger intercooler alone wasn’t enough, in previous generations, the supercharger discharge was typically too far forward from the intercooler core, and sandwiched so close to the core on top that the core’s surface area was not properly utilized. With the new 3.0L Gen 5, Whipple was able to increase the volume and distance above the intercooler core, as well as doing the same below. This issue, like some of our competition, increases the “boost” in the manifold, but not at the valves and combustion chamber. This means high boost, low power and high discharge temps. Whipple’s front feed system has a rear discharge port at nearly the center of the IC core. Through countless CFD analysis, Whipple’s design utilizes nearly the entire intercooler core, resulting in less pressure drop and cooler temps for increased power levels.
Another great feature to the Whipple Coyote kits is the oversized heat exchanger, nearly 150% more volume than the competition, oversized aluminum intercooler reservoir and optional dual fan kit. The oversized heat exchanger is nearly the size of the engine radiator, giving incredible cooling capacity for daily driving, drag racing or road racing. Get the dual Spal fan kit option and increase the airflow over the heat exchanger. The Whipple oversized aluminum reservoir is again a unique feature included with every kit. The aluminum reservoir is remote mounted in the driver side inner fender, keeping it in the cool area away from engine heat, along with having over 1.2 gallons of capacity in the reservoir alone! Giving the intercooler system well over 2 gallons of capacity. This means cooler air temps, less heat soak and more power!

Whipple Supercharger is a company that was founded in 1987 by Art Whipple and is located in Fresno, California. As a family-owned business, they constantly find ways to thrive with innovative products and commitment to staying ahead of the competition.
They are best known for creating the industry’s best forced induction system and pioneering the twin screw superchargers for the internal combustion engine. Their dedication to providing innovative products has enabled them to be at the forefront of the supercharging industry.
The company’s founder Art Whipple is known as an innovator and is an icon in the motorsport industry. Using his experience as a successful racer, chief, and team owner of successful top fuel funny cars and dragsters, they can create the best supercharger in the market. They have achieved multiple speed records and quarter-mile times using their products, making them the go-to brand of many racers and other top racing teams.
Whipple Superchargers is considered one of the most respected and trusted aftermarket supercharger brands on the market. They are also the brand of choice of two of the best automotive manufacturers globally, Ford And GM.
As the only US-based manufacturer of the twin-supercharger, they ensure that they do not cut corners when manufacturing their products. There are tons of superchargers available in the market. They may look the same, but nothing compares to what Whipple can deliver.
If you are in the market for quality products that would give you the highest horsepower gain in your engine, then look no further as Whipple Supercharger is the brand for you. They also offer other products, which include intercoolers, cold air intakes, and a power kit.
The amount of horsepower gain would depend on your current setup such as the type of pulleys, fuel system, exhaust, and internal components that you use. But for a stock engine, adding a Whipple Superchargers can add up between 30% to 50% of the car’s original horsepower output.
A Whipple Supercharger is one of the three types of superchargers available in the market. The twin-screw design was developed to fill the tremendous voids that the centrifugal, turbo and roots superchargers have. Though their function are all the same, its twin screw design allows it to be less susceptible to suffer from heat stroke. This helps improve its efficiency and reaction time.
Installing a Whipple Supercharger is pretty straightforward. It mounts on top of an engine intake system and most kits come with all the necessary hardware needed for the install.
The system is operated by a pulley, which is driven by the engine’s pulley drive system. The way Whipple Supercharger works is it uses twin screws to compress air and force it inside the engine. The more air you can put in, the more fuel you can add, which in turn create better and more powerful combustion.
This depending on the kit and vehicle application. Prices for these superchargers can range between $3000 to $12,000.
Yes. Whipple Superchargers advertises that they are the most powerful and emission-friendly supercharger available in the market.
These superchargers can last long given that you do proper maintenance and use it based on what the manufacturer has suggested.
If you are technically inclined in fixing cars, all you have to spend for is the cost of the kit because it is something you can do on your own. But if you will have a professional to do it for, be ready to shell out anywhere between $1500 to $7500.
The biggest Whipple Supercharger available is an 8.3 liter/rev with an output of 3250 CFM and a peak rev of 12,000 RPM.
All Whipple Superchargers are made in USA. The only component made outside of the country is its rotor. Whipple Superchargers is already on the works of trying to make everything in their inhouse facility in Fresno, California.
Yes. It does not require any special tools, and all you need is a simple ratchet.
Most companies like Vivid Racing offer Performance Part Financing for your vehicle which includes Whipple Superchargers. You can do a fixed, monthly payment with an APR between 10-30%.
Yes, but only to a certain extent and it should only be done by an expert or someone familiar with these types of work.
Yes, but not as much compared to the other types of superchargers. Whipple Superchargers are designed to be less susceptible to heat soaking but it does not entirely eliminate it.
Whipple Superchargers are quieter compared to other types of superchargers. This may be good to some, especially for cars used as a daily driver. But others are looking for that specific whining sound that superchargers are known for.
For a company to void your warranty, they need to prove that the modification done on the vehicle is the cause of the warranty claim - unless the warranty clause of your vehicle clearly states that adding an aftermarket component would void the warranty. For this, better check your vehicle’s manual for what is included in your warranty.
