The Autolite

Story began in 1911 when two small companies started producing buggy lamps, becoming a thriving automotive parts manufacturer by the 1930s. But its history as a spark plug manufacturer began in 1935 when Royce G. Martin, President of the Electric Autolite Company, equipped and staffed a lab to develop the first Autolite spark plug. Leading the project was Robert Twells, a ceramic engineer, who eagerly researched current patents and ceramic insulator technology. With a handful of new draftsman and staff members, it only took a few months before the Electric Autolite Company had a spark plug available for distribution. Autolite had instant success, as the brand supplied spark plugs and other ignition parts to well-known automotive leaders including Chrysler, Studebaker, Packard and Willys.

Features:

  • Copper-glass seal bonds insulator, terminal post center electrode together; assures full required voltage at spark gap; gas-tight seal (100% leak proof)

  • One-piece terminal post adds strength
  • Resistor reduces radio frequency interference (RFI) and electrode erosion
  • Cold-formed steel shell precision rolled threads
  • Full copper core electrode provides better performance in all conditions
  • Verify all cross reference listings before purchase

Who is Autolite?

Autolite is an automotive parts company that was founded in 1911. It was formed when two small companies started manufacturing buggy lamps used by the automotive industry. Then in 1935, they shifted their operation and began producing sparkplugs.

From that moment on, the company has become one of the most popular sparkplug brands and is used by automotive manufacturers such as Studebaker, Packard, Willys, and Chrysler. Today, Autolite is recognized as the industry leader in its market segment.

SparkPlug Experts

Autolite has made billions of sparkplugs since it first started. It is a testament to the number of users that trust their brand. And it is not only the consumer who favors them, as major automakers such as Ford are using their product as their OEM sparkplug.

Continuous Innovation

Autolite has always pushed itself to develop the best products and is always on the edge when it comes to technological advancement. This revolutionized the way sparkplugs are made. Autolite is the first company to produce platinum sparkplugs used in Ford vehicles. Because of this, it spearheaded the trend of using platinum sparkplugs for high-performance applications.
